2020 Volkswagen Atlas
The 2020 Volkswagen Atlas is a three-row crossover SUV with a spacious interior and seating for adults in all three rows. Volkswagen has unveiled the Atlas for the model year as its first three-wheel drive SUV with seating for six or seven, depending on the setup. The 2020 Atlas has a choice of a 235-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder or a 276-hp, 3.6-liter V-6. Front-wheel-drive versions are available with both engines, but the four-wheel drive is only offered with the V-6. All models have an eight-speed automatic transmission. The participants are the Chevrolet Traverse, Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot, and Toyota Highlander.
Forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, a blind-spot warning system, and reverse cross-traffic is standard. Other available safety features and management aids include customizable cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, and an automated parking system that works for both parallel and perpendicular spaces. However, where the Atlas really stands out is in its interior and boot. Seven adults can truly fit in this three-row SUV, and the second-row seats have nearly 8 inches of front-rear adjustment to help with this.
2020 Volkswagen Atlas Interior
The interior of this VW is made of high-quality materials, although most move to the front of the cabin. The second and third rows have more plastic. On the plus side, it’s easier to clean up if you have messy kids. The Atlas Cross Sport has five people in two rows. There is plenty of space, no matter where you sit in the standard Atlas, and even adults have generous legroom in the third row. The move second row offers extra flexibility. The Volkswagen Atlas has an abundance of useful, high-tech features. These include a 6.5-inch touch screen, Mirror Link, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a stereo speaker with six speakers, Bluetooth, a USB port, and the next generation Car-Net service from VW with WiFi hotspot.
Options include an 8-inch touch screen, voice recognition, navigation, HD radio, satellite radio, a 12-speaker Fender premium stereo, three additional USB ports, and Volkswagen’s 12.3-inch Digital Cockpit screen. The Atlas deserves praise for its abundant technology in the cabin. Infotainment controls are clearly marked and easy to use. The available VW Digital Cockpit replaces the traditional custom cluster and displays navigation, climate settings, vehicle information, and more. The upgraded VW Car-Net service also offers a wealth of handy features that allow you to communicate remotely with your vehicle via a smartphone app.
2020 Volkswagen Atlas Engine
The Volkswagen Atlas has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine of 235 hp. This engine feels under power, especially when traveling with multiple passengers. The available 3.6-liter 3.6-liter V6 hp offers a bit more oomph, but it’s not very powerful compared to other V6s in the class. Atlas models with the base car and front-wheel drive get an estimated EPA value of 20 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. This is an above-average estimate for the mid-size SUV class. The Atlas Cross Sport returns 21/24 mpg city/highway. Models with the V6 see a drop to 17/23 mpg for both the three-row Atlas and the two-row Cross Sport. V6 models with four-wheel drive become 1 mpg less in the city and on the highway.
2020 Volkswagen Atlas Safety

It earned five stars in the pre-and side-clash tests and four stars in the lead evaluation. The Atlas’ standard lights received the lowest rating from Poor for how well they illuminated the way forward, while the headlights in the Atlas SEL Premium branch received the second-lowest rating from Marginal. Due to its standard preventative incident, Atlas achieved the highest rating of Superior.
