The 2019 Mercedes-Benz Maybach Sedan is available in the S 560 4Matic and S 650 finishes. The S 560 4Matic is powered by a 4-liter turbocharged V8, which is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel drive system is included. The S 650 upgrades to a 6.0-liter turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 (621 hp, 738 lb-ft) are transmitted in a seven-speed transmission that sends power to the rear wheels.

The Maybach 2019 models also has some exclusive cabin material and upgraded interior features, which cater to customers who are likely to be driven to their destination by a driver. And while not much in the way of change – a new grille and some new paint schemes – this big Mercedes is still worth your time. The Maybach does have some drawbacks, such as the price premium you pay for an S-Class, or the fact that you get a smaller trunk than you would with anything else in the segment. But we think these are minor complaints in the big scheme. For anyone with a pocketbook large enough, we definitely recommend a little closer.

Also on the Maybach is a household power plug, Mercedes’ COMAND infotainment system, a navigation system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging pads and a 13-speaker Burmester audio system. Options include various wheel and interior choices; Magic Sky Control, which provides a dimmable hue of the roof; a rear center console, reducing passenger capacity to four; dual rear entertainment systems; rear folding chairs, a refrigerator between the rear seats; heated and cooled copper sticks; and silver Champagne flutes from Robbe & Berking.

Inside, the cabin is extraordinarily adjustable, from independent interior lighting front and rear to choice of scents. It’s all accessible via the center screen, which can be connected in different ways. The doors open very wide. Visibility is a mixed bag, but the cameras help a lot.
On the middle screen there are numerous features and many menus. But the system is pretty well laid out and there is always an escape button to go back home. Multiple control interfaces contain controls that need to be familiar. Elsewhere, the cabin is spacious and intuitive to use.

2019 Mercedes-Benz Maybach Engine

The S 560 is powered by a turbocharged V8 and is offered exclusively with four-wheel drive. In our book, it gains practical points by being weather resistant. Of course, it makes less power than the turbocharged V12 in the S 650, but with 463 horsepower on tap, most passengers probably won’t notice the difference. Each vehicle is usually in different versions which are essentially the same.

The rating in this review is based on our full test of the Mercedes-Maybach S 650, turbocharged 6.0L V12 with 7-speed automatic. The Maybach is not a driver’s car, but this big, heavy sedan drives and handles sharper than you would expect. The twin-turbo V12 delivers effortless and powerful acceleration from any speed. It is slightly detached but very capable.

2019 Mercedes-Benz Maybach Safety

On the advanced safety feature and driver-assist front, you get automatic large beams, a camera view with a surround view, a night vision camera system, automatic speed adjustment, an automatic parking system, customized cruise control, forward and cross-traffic collision warning with automatic braking, emergency evasion steering, active blind spot assistant, active lane change assistant, lane movement and crosswind assistant, a collision hearing protection system, airbags built into the rear shoulder straps, and a sleepy driver emergency 2019 Mercedes-Benz Maybach emergency warning system.
