The 2018 Lotus Elise is a sports car from Lotus Cars. The car was first shown in 1995 at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt am Main. The concept was unusual: Small dimensions, a small mid-engine and the absence of any comfort combined with high-quality lightweight construction resulted in a sports car with excellent performance at half the price of a Porsche 911.

Lotus used for the equipment numerous standard components from other manufacturers. Steering column switches, window cranks, and internal door handles were manufactured by Vauxhall / Opel, the switches for auxiliary functions and heating control by Peugeot. The dashboard comes from the motorsport supplier Stack. The name of the Elise was Elisa, the granddaughter of Romano Artioli, the CEO at the time of the first presentation and the owner of Lotus. The market success of the vehicle far exceeded the manufacturer’s expectations and led to delivery times of well over a year. In 2012, 41 Lotus Elise were newly registered in Germany, including 12 vehicles by commercial owners, according to information from the Federal Motor Transport Authority.
