The 2020 Cadillac XT5 comes in three finishes: Luxury, luxury Premium, and Sport. 2020 Cadillac XT5 mid-size SUV crossover exclusive features like lane warning, Apple Carplay or Android Auto, and indisputable style. Notable accessories for safety and comfort such as front parking sensors and LED headlights are now standard. There are some new optional features, such as a night vision system that can illuminate at night and large animals at night.

These improvements will make the XT5 a better version of itself, and it remains a comfortable alternative to European offerings in the segment. Still, the competition remains stiff, with offers from the extremely luxurious Mercedes-Benz GLC to the sporty and smartly designed Acura RDX. Lincoln’s new Nautilus is another interesting choice. In the end, other offerings make a stronger impression in terms of dynamics and luxury, but the Cadillac XT5 may still be worth looking at.

2020 Cadillac XT5 Features

Standard equipment includes an 8-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, a Bose stereo system, power-adjustable front seats, simulated leather upholstery, and more. Lane departure warning and forward collision with automatic emergency braking is standard, but you must move beyond the Luxury trim to gain access to additional advanced driver assistance. Upgrading the Premium Luxury gives you a few extra options, such as blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic warning, leather upholstery, a hands-free lift, and automatic windscreen wipers. It also offers access to a number of options not available in the Luxury, including the Sport trim’s V6 engine and customizable suspension.

Optional features for the Premium Luxury and Sport models include a 14-speaker Bose stereo, navigation, ventilated front seats and more. Customizable cruise control and automatic braking power are available, as well as a rear-view camera system, rearview mirror, and even a night vision camera. There’s also the Platinum package that upgrades the XT5’s upholstery and interior materials.

2020 Cadillac XT5 Interior

The interior looks nice, and the controls are easy to understand. Cadillac uses an 8-inch touchscreen that is now small for a luxury vehicle. The design of the XT5 compromises some visibility, mainly the rear view of the three-quarters and the narrow rear window. The XT5’s management tools, such as blind-spot monitoring and rear traffic alert, are very useful. And although the XT5 offers ample front and legroom, it doesn’t feel as spacious over the width of the cabin, especially at the elbows.

2020 Cadillac XT5 technology

The infotainment and technology included in the XT5 are competitive in its class. For example, the optional Bose audio system with 14 speakers sounds crisp and powerful, and Bluetooth pairing is easy and simple. The XT5 also provides a useful number of charging ports for your devices. The default voice controls aren’t the best, so we recommend using CarPlay or Android Auto. When it comes to advanced safety systems, Cadillac gives you some standards, but you have to pay extra to access others, such as customizable cruise control.

2020 Cadillac XT5 Engine

The Sport Standard with a V6 engine (310 hp and 271 pounds of torque) with upgraded engine cooling, four-wheel drive and a sport-tuned suspension with customizable dampers. The 2020 XT5 Luxury comes standard with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder (237 horsepower and 258-pound torque), nine-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The four-wheel drive is available as an optional upgrade. It’s lower than the previous V6 standard of 310 hp, but it delivers a similar torque (258 pounds and 271 pounds).

Although the EPA has not released any ratings for the 2020 XT5, the 2020 XT5 fuel economy estimates are parallel to those of other V-6 powered competitors. The four-wheel-drive loses 1 MPG in the city as well as on the highway, a small concession to extra confidence in bad weather. In the real world, the performance of the XT5 was worse than expected. The last 2020 XT5 is tested drove just 23 of the promised 26 mpg during our 200-mile fuel-economy route.

2020 Cadillac XT5 Safety

The standard on the XT5 safety and driving features, including a front-end system with automatic braking speed and pedestrian detection, lane warning and lane assistance, turn lights, teen driver and rear seat reminder. Blindspot warning and rear cross-traffic warning remain optional and are not available on the base model. Depending on the trim level, the 360-degree technological system, an on-screen display, an automated parking system, and a night-vision system, displayed on the dashboard, warn of potential dangers. The 2020 Cadillac XT5 standard backup camera has a higher definition and there is a new warning for pedestrians behind.
