2021 Acura MDX
The 2021 Acura MDX or 2021 Honda MDX is a mid-size three-row luxury crossover. Acura has been tearing up recently and is rapidly updating its small range of premium cars and SUVs, and the Acura 2021 MDX is next in line to receive a revamp. The brand’s three-wheel-drive sports utility vehicle is brand new for the 2021 model year and it looks good. Acura MDX inherits its stylish style from the compact Acura RDX SUV and Acura TLX sedan. A 3.5-liter 3.5-liter V-6 with an automatic 10-speed and front-wheel drive is standard; a four-wheel drive is optional. A performance-oriented Type S model gets a 3.0-liter V-6 of 355 hp and standard four-wheel drive.
The cabin gets a great look and mixes luxurious materials and features worthy of the MDX’s premium badge. The MDX is completely new for 2021 and borrows styling and technology from the recently refurbished Acura RDX and Acura TLX models; Acura has confirmed that there will be no interim 2021 model and that the brand new 2021 MDX will reach Acura dealers in early 2021.
2021 Acura MDX Interior
Acura has enhanced the MDX cabin to give it a much better look and feel over the 2020 model. French-stitched leather covers the dashboard and wood ornaments with open pores mix with metallic and piano black accents. The MDX’s cabin is also nicely equipped with many essential amenities such as automatic climate control with dual zones, heated front seats, and leather upholstery. Available sports seats offer 16-way power adjustability as well as massage. The MDX remains a three-row SUV and Acura claims that both the passenger space and the cargo space have increased, but did not want to give specific measurements.
The 2021 MDX has a large 12.3-inch infotainment screen with a touchpad controller on the center console. We can also display a fully digital meter. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both standard, as is a digital monitor and a wireless charging pad for smartphones. We expect items like a Wi-Fi hotspot and in-dash navigation to be optional extras. An ELS premium stereo system is also offered with up to 25 speakers.
2021 Acura MDX Engine
The new MDX uses the same standard 290-hp 3.5-liter V-6 as the outgoing model, but it is now mated to a ten-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is still standard with four-wheel drive available as an option. The outgoing MDX of 2020 was also presented with a hybrid propulsion system that can be transferred to the new model or can be upgraded in some way, but Acura has not yet provided any information about it. The sportier Type S model is powered by a 355-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 and comes standard with a four-wheel drive. The EPA has not yet released the fuel consumption estimates for the MD22 of 2022, but we expect a slight improvement over the 2020 model, which deserves a rating of 20 mpg city and 27 mpg highway with front-wheel drive. If we get the chance to test the new MDX, we will use it through our 200-mile fuel consumption route and update this story with the results.
2021 Acura MDX Safety
2021 MDX is equipped with the automatic emergency brake, pedestrian detection, lane departure, lane assistance, adaptive cruise control. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Highway Safety Insurance Institute (IIHS) have not yet weighed the MDX’s safety chops in 2021. However, Acura has increasingly added standard driver assistance techniques to its cars, and the 2021 Acura MDX offers several desirable features.
